Sewer Pipeline

Sewer pipeline is probably one of the oldest types of pipeline systems in existence. Usage of this type of pipeline has been traced back to thousands of centuries. Archaeological excavations have unearthed many such systems made of orange colored clay such as that of timeless pottery pieces. Today, this same orange colored clay pipe material is still the most commonly used for sewage related pipeline construction. This is because of its ability to withstand disintegration from strong acids such as those in harsh chemicals and other liquid pollutants that would otherwise eat through any other type of pipe material.

Originally, these sewer pipe systems were used to irrigate crops using gravity-fed water from local rivers. Not all pipes were cast in a circular shape. In fact, some pipes were cast into a square shapes, with the top part of the pipe open and exposed. These pipes were used to carry away human waste product.

Pipeline Construction Companies

We are often asked, what is the difference between wet and dry pipeline construction companies? Pipeline construction companies can basically be separated into two (2) categories: dry and wet utility pipeline construction. Some pipeline companies do one or specific combinations of wet / dry pipeline construction. Dry utility pipeline construction companies install pipelines that are typically non-petroleum based, that do not hold liquid volumes inside the pipes.

In contrast, there are wet utility pipeline construction companies such as those that install sewer, water pipeline and storm drainage systems. These types of utilities carry liquid volume in the pipe, and are therefore called, "wet" utility pipelines for this reason. Next time you are looking for "pipeline construction companies," consider whether you need dry or wet utility pipeline contractors. Note, too, that oftentimes, they may be referred to as "underground" pipeline construction companies.

Sewer Maintenance

Sewer systems are sensitive creatures which are why maintaining them is so important. If sewer pipelines are not well maintained, they can cause foul odors throughout neighborhoods. Sewer Laterals

Sewer laterals are connections in sewer pipeline construction that are common whenever installing new pipe or improving current sewer pipeline systems for both public and private construction projects. Sewer lateral connections are the actual material and methods used to join a sewer line coming from a private property (sewer lateral) to the public sewer main line. Three most common sewer lateral connections are wye connection, saddle connection, and cut-in-wye connection.

The most common type of sewer lateral connections to sewer main pipelines are wye connections. Wye sewer lateral connections are manufactured in the shape of the alphabet letter "y". This type of connection is installed whenever there is a new sewer pipeline installation requiring new sewer laterals to individual properties. Unlike pressurized water pipeline systems, sewer and storm drainage systems are designed using gravity flow wherever possible. The "y" shape is more favorable to the gravitational flow pattern of sewer systems by directing flow of sewage into the same direction as the flow in the public sewer main line. Therefore, sewer main lines are less likely to have any clogs or backup. ye connections are made by attaching wye material to the ends of sewer main line pipe as the main line is being installed. Wye connections are installed at designed and required locations for the new laterals. Sewer wye connections are available in various types of material including polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and vitrified clay pipe (VCP) material, but typically, these sewer lateral wye materials are made of the same material as the sewer main line (i.e. a VCP sewer main will have a VCP material wye sewer lateral connection as well).
